Unfussy, modern British-inspired cooking

We focus on simple, beautifully cooked seasonal food. Our menu and Specials Board change daily: simply cooked sustainable fish; British meats; delicious vegetarian and vegan dishes and tempting puddings to finish. Simple dishes, big flavours! We use the best quality suppliers such as the fifth generation butchers Walter Rose and Sons and the brilliant Flying Fish from Loue in Cornwall.

We are just as serious about good drink as we are about good food. Our well stocked bar helps keep the relaxed and convivial spirit of a local boozer very much alive.

We operate a rotating list of guest real ales, from breweries such as the brilliant Otter Brewery in Devon, as well as world wines from our two favourite suppliers Hallgarten and Jeroboams where the absolute focus is world class quality from some of the best producers currently making wines. We also serve the only cocktails worth filling the glass for – a negroni for lunch, a martini before dinner, an Old Fashioned when you need a stiff drink, a Margarita for when you want to pretend you’re on holiday and a Bloody Mary for the morning after.

Suppliers

It’s thanks to our trusted food partners that we can always offer the finest and freshest of British produce, and we design our menus to showcase the very best, season by season. Meet two of our favourites.

Walter Rose and Sons

Established in Devizes, Wiltshire in 1847, family firm Walter Rose & Son is a multi-award-winning traditional butcher with exceptional provenance and sustainability credentials. All its ‘farm to fork’ beef comes from outstanding Aberdeen Angus and Hereford crosses farmed by Tim Johnson at Stokes Marsh Farm, just eight miles from the butcher’s shop. Choosing small heifers for their consistent quality and rich marbling of fat, the company treats each piece individually, hanging it and checking it daily until it reaches the perfect maturity. We’re proud to serve Walter Rose & Son’s beef cuts and sausages in many of our dishes.

Flying Fish Seafoods

Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons, Pollen Street Social and Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck are just a few of Flying Fish Seafoods’ most celebrated customers, and we’re proud to work with the St Columb, Cornwall-based supplier to ensure our fish and shellfish dishes are packed with freshness and flavour. Working to the highest ethical and sustainability standards, Flying Fish’s expert buyers source the best catches every sunrise from the day boats in Looe, Brixham, Newlyn and Plymouth for delivery overnight, supplementing its local produce with speciality products from exceptional artisanal merchants in Scotland and the storied Rungis market in Paris.
