About The Carpenter's Arms

The Carpenter’s Arms joins The Surprise in Chelsea and The Walmer Castle in Notting Hill as the third pub in the Wren Pubs portfolio. Established by Jack and Poppy Greenall, Wren Pubs has made its mission to evolve the best traditions of English innkeeping in historic London taverns through exceptional hospitality, sensitive restoration and design, and a passionate focus on community.

Situated on a quiet side street near the elegant St Peter’s Square, The Carpenter’s Arms is an independent nineteenth-century pub with authentic and classic interiors, delicious seasonal food and a friendly team to welcome you.

A stone’s throw from the Thames, come and enjoy an afternoon or evening by the fire or in the beautiful sun trap secret garden.

History

St Peter’s Square was laid out during the economic boom in 1820 when George Scott built a speculative housing development on part of his Ravenscourt Park estate. The Carpenter’s Arms first opened its doors as a public house in 1871 owned by the Thomas Salt and Co Brewery.

In 1973 Chris Blackwell founded Island Records and opened their offices in St Peter’s Square. We like to think that many of their roster of musicians including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Aswad, Cat Stevens, Robert Palmer, Steve Winwood, Grace Jones and U2 would have enjoyed a lock in once upon a time at the Carpenter’s Arms!

In the mid 90s the pub changed ownership and became Le St Pierre and then The Lazy Vine. In 2007, it returned to its roots as a pub with AA Gill awarding it his maximum five stars. In 2015 the Carpenter’s Arms was awarded Best Local Restaurant Hammersmith by Time Out.

In 2024, Jack Greenall acquired the pub and it became the newest addition to the Wren Pubs family.
